5 Social Media Templates to save time

There are over 3.196 billion social media users globally. That’s 42% of the world’s population at the fingertips of your social media marketing plan. The sheer reach and influence of social media means it has the potential to be a very powerful tool for your business.

30% of all time spent online is now allocated to social media. It will come as no surprise then that 93% of marketers use it for their business, yet many fail to get out of it what they expect.

It’s true that social media can help grow your business, bolster brand awareness and enable you to connect and engage with potential customers. If you’re not making the most of your social media marketing with a planned and strategic approach, you’re missing out.

This is where social media templates fit in

Social media templates save serious time and effort. They help you plan your social media content and calendar in line with your own business goals and important dates in the calendar. After all, marketers who record and document strategies are 538% more likely to report success.

But before you hit the ground running there are a few questions it’s important to ask yourself.

  • What are you looking to get out of your social media marketing?
  • Why do you need a template?

Are you looking to drive awareness, increase engagement or boost conversions? Decided on what you want to achieve from your social media? Now you can find the right template to help you reach your goals.

Below we’ve rounded up our 5 favourite social media templates that will help ease every step of your social media journey – from planning, publishing to tracking results.

Hootsuite’s Social Media Audit Template

Carrying out a social media audit is a key step towards developing a killer social media marketing plan. This is the process of looking carefully at your existing social efforts, helping you establish what’s working and what’s not.

We particularly like Hootsuite’s Social Media Audit Template which is simple to use. It gives a central space in which to note down key information about each of your social platforms.

First things first, note down:

  1. The social channels you currently use
  2. Establish any other brands or accounts that may be representing you
  3. Create a mission statement for each of your channels
  4. Identify whether your profiles are on brand
  5. Pinpoint your top posts and content
  6. Note down metrics
  7. Centralised ownership of all your passwords
  8. Jot down any relevant notes

Completing this audit template will highlight areas of your social media that are in need of improvement. If your Facebook account isn’t on brand and is receiving poor engagement, for example, you can identify this as an area to work on.

You can also determine what’s working. Having made a note of your 3 best performing posts for each of your platforms, you can look for patterns between each of these posts. Why are they receiving high levels of engagement? Do they include videos or encourage follower participation? Is it to do with the time they were posted or a particular subject?

Whatever it is, you can make a note of it in this audit template. This should  help you deliver better social media content in the right places.

Hubspot’s Social Media Calendar Template

Next, we’ve chosen Hubspot’s Social Media Calendar Template. With this free to download template you can organise and plan your social media activities across all platforms in one place.

Within the spreadsheet you’ll find a monthly overview, in which you can note down key dates in your business diary. Let’s say you were launching a new product or service on a specific date. Having this in your social media calendar means you can incorporate this into your social plan. You’ll never miss an important date again.

This is also a great reference point when drawing up your blog content calendar or email promotions.

Within the template there are also calendars for each of your social channels. Within the Twitter tab, for example, you’ll find a daily breakdown where you can plan your publishing and content schedule to a tee. For a planned post you can note down:

  • The date and time
  • Your message
  • A relevant link
  • The campaign name
  • Character count
  • Any images you will be using

More extra features

This saves a lot of time. For each day you know exactly what content you’ll be posting on each of your accounts and have the content prepared to publish.

Another handy feature is the content repository. You might have built up a solid bank of content that you’ll want to promote on social media in the future. In the content repository you keep track of content already in your arsenal. That way, you’ll never miss out on posting a great piece of content again. If the content you have isn’t evergreen you can make a note of the ‘expiration’ date to ensure it’s posted before this point.

Hubspot’s calendar helps you plan what you’re posting, and when. This keeps your social media marketing relevant, organised and will save you tons of time, avoiding any last-minute scrambles for content.

Hootsuite’s Editorial Calendar Template

When it comes to social media marketing,  keeping an editorial calendar helps reduce arduous admin and saves a lot of planning time. We find Hootsuite’s free editorial template super useful and extremely easy to use.

Essentially, you can use this with the social media template.

Hootsuite’s editorial calendar template gives you a space to plan what content you’ll be putting out ahead of time on the blog or on the site, keeping your social media organised and relevant.

For each month, you’ll find a weekly breakdown in which you can clearly label the topics of the content you’ll be publishing that week. This avoids posting repeat content and helps you equally balance the types of content you’re posting. For example, you can ensure you’re putting out a balanced mix of blog posts, high authority links, posters, and content promoting your services/products.

If you’ve got an important product launch approaching, you can be sure that this is on your social media radar.

Hootsuite’s editorial calendar template consists of tabs for each month, in which you can breakdown your projects by week, day or even by hour if it requires that level of detail. This is a great tool for helping you plan your content, ensuring that it’s varied, relevant and isn’t a repeat of the same thing you posted last week.
