Chances are you’ve heard of Quora. The question and answer-based platform where millions of us flock to gain and share knowledge on every topic under the sun. In fact, over 400,000 topics are discussed on the platform.

Platforms like Quora repeatedly pop up at the top of a Google search. It should come as no surprise – people will always have questions. We’ll never run out of them. And with questions come answers. That’s what makes Quora so powerful.

But why exactly are talking about this in our digital marketing blog?

Well, Quora is an extremely powerful tool for digital marketers who know how to use it.

Think about it this way, it’s a space in which your audience are asking questions and voicing their frustrations. This gives your business an unrivalled insight into what knowledge they wish to seek and what questions they want answering.

What this means is that Quora is an amazing tool for content generation.

In this guide we’ll explain how your business can utilise the content goldmine that is Quora to create targeted, relevant content that will get your audience to sit up and listen.

First things first – what is Quora and how to use it

As always, let’s start with the basics.

What exactly is Quora?

We’ve touched on the fact that it’s a question and answer led forum. Anyone and everyone can ask and answer questions. You’ll find a huge range of topics and subjects being discussed so whatever your area of expertise, chances are it’s being talked about.

Users can then vote on which answers are most helpful.

There are a couple of more advanced handy features of the platform that are also useful to know about:

  • Just like on platforms such as LinkedIn, users can publish content on Quora. If you are researching a particular topic it can be useful to see what content has been published
  • You can follow specific questions or topics, meaning you’ll receive a notification every time a new question is posted

So, how can your business utilise this platform to gain killer content marketing ideas?

Many businesses feel the struggle when it comes to content marketing.

The pressure to create kick ass content that really resonates with your audience can leave marketers scratching their heads.

In fact, 57% of marketers say that creating new content ideas is their biggest struggle.

But, we all know that creating killer content pays off. After all, marketers who prioritise blogging are a whopping 13x more likely to see a positive return on investment. Creating epic content ideas needs to be a key part of every marketer’s content marketing strategy.

Killer content ranks higher on Google, gains more leads and converts potential customers into actual customers.

Content marketing is so effective because it not only attracts visitors to your site, it also tells them you understand their needs and are ready to solve their problems.

That’s where Quora comes in.

With over 300 million unique monthly users on Quora, the platform is a goldmine for uncovering targeted, relevant, valuable content ideas based on your audiences’ real frustrations and pain points.

Using Quora to uncover these topics means you can go on to create compelling content your audience really want to read.

Ready to get started using Quora as a content marketing tool?

The first thing you’ll need to do is set up and complete a user profile.

Fill in your name, add an image, write a short description and even add links to your site or social platforms.

Quora will prompt you to select your interests from a wide range of topics. These span everything from business, digital marketing, fashion to food.

Having selected your specific interests, Quora will generate feeds for each of these topic areas.

Now you’re set up and rearing to go.

There are several different features of the tool that are super handy when it comes to generating highly-targeted, relevant content ideas straight from your audiences’ finger tips.

Whatever your area or niche, you can learn a valuable thing or two about your audience and their content needs.

Follow feeds

Quora Feeds offer a wealth of handy information and content ideas straight from the minds and mouths of your market.

Follow any feed that’s relevant to your business and away you go.

For example, let’s say we enter the feed for Social Media Marketing. Here, we can read relevant articles, view questions asked around the topic and see a list of the 10 writers with the most answer views in the last 30 days.

Let’s look at these features more closely:

  • Read Tab: here you will find articles and guides published by Quora users on your chosen area. This is a great for gaining an insight into what content is popular and preforming well.
  • Answer Tab: Here, you’ll find all the questions being asked in this area, alongside how many times the questions have been answered.

For example, these are just some of the questions being asked around the topic of social media marketing:

  • What are advantages of social media?
  • How can I generate more leads?
  • What are 5 Instagram metrics to follow?

As you can see, this lets you gain a real insight into what real people – your audience – want to know about.

You can also click on a question to enter into the question and answer thread. This will allow you to see the range of different answers that have been provided.

Top tip: take note of how many answers a question has received. A thread with 399 answers obviously has far more interest than a question with no answers. This is a great indication of what subjects are more popular amongst your audience, meaning you can gear your content towards these more pressing subjects.

Search Quora

You’ll notice the search bar to the top of the page.

This is another way to navigate around the forum. Simply enter your topic or keyword to find questions, answers and articles around that subject.

Having entered our keyword, in this case Instagram Marketing, we can filter our results in the left-hand menu:

  • By Type: depending on whether you want to view all content types, just questions, answers, posts, users’ profiles, topics or spaces.
  • By Time: to view content from the past hour, day, week month, or year. This is a great little feature for businesses looking to keep a finger on the pulse. By simply filtering results from the past hour or day you see fresh, topical questions.

Like in feeds, we can then enter into the question and answer thread to see what answers have been provided to gain even further content ideas.

We can also see how many users have followed the question. As mentioned above, the more users that follow a question, the more interest there is around that topic which is worth considering when crafting your content strategy.

Hang out in Spaces

Spaces were introduced by Quora in 2018. The platform announced that spaces was “a feature that allows people to curate collections and form communities around shared interests and tastes.”

Spaces are used:

  • To form communities of people with similar interests to have conversations around the topic area
  • By groups of users working together to create the most interesting answers and links about that particular subject

For example, let’s follow the ‘Instagram for Marketers’ space:

Here, we can view questions being asked in this niche, answers provided as well as shared news and articles.

Spaces are typically where you’ll find subject enthusiasts or experts hanging out, making them a great place to head for further content ideas.

Write better-targeted content with Quora

Clearly, Quora is a goldmine for learning about your target audience – determining what questions, pain points and frustrations they have and want to be addressed.
